Prior to the exam changing on November 10, 2008, our pass rate was about 97% or 98%. After the exams changed, we increased the exam prep class from 1 day to 2 days. Even so, our pass rate dropped to about 88%. The test has had a few minor changes since then, so we could be slightly below 88%.
In the past we could keep track of the pass rate exactly because the exams were given at our location. Because the state has discontinued the practice of giving remote exams, our pass rate is a little harder to track now.
We offer a guarantee that you will pass your exam. If you do not pass you can take the exam prep again, free of charge. In the past, virtually everyone who failed took advantage of this. Since the remote exams were discontinued, we generally only have a couple of people contact us to re-take the class. Our average class size is about 20, so we seem to be continuing to run at about 90%.
Based on the limited information we have about pass rates for people taking the test without our class, my estimate would be:
People taking courses from other instructors: Anywhere from 35% to 75%.
People not taking a course at all: The average is unknown, but we have heard some horror stories of 40 people taking the exam and 3 people passing. I'm sure this is not typical, and it may be someone stretching the truth a bit. Even so, most stories have at least some truth to them.
The average pass rate, including people taking our class, other classes, and no classes is currently about 60% to 70% according to the state.
To the best of our knowledge, our pass rate is significantly higher than anyone elses, and we are the only ones who offer a pass guarantee.
